Moscow Mule With Tequila

Moscow Mule with Tequila or Tequila Mule is a fun, ultra refreshing twist on the classic cocktail. The agave flavor shines in combination with the pungent bite of ginger and in our new version.

If you're a fan of Moscow Mules, then you'll love this twist on the classic, made with tequila instead vodka.

The Moscow Mule was invented because a vodka distributor and a Los Angeles bartender were each having trouble pushing a different product. The year was 1941, and John Martin—who worked for a distributor that sold Smirnoff—realized that Americans loved their whiskey and wanted nothing to do with vodka.

He paid a visit to the Cock ‘n Bull bar on Sunset Boulevard where the owner Jack Morgan lamented that he couldn’t sell his proprietary ginger beer. The two put their heads together, and the Moscow Mule was born. As with any classic, different variations began to pop up through the years as folks realized they could swap vodka for other spirits. Hence, the Tequila Mule came to be.

DO I NEED A COPPER MUG?

Short answer – no, you do not. A simple highball cocktail glass would be also perfect.

But. The signature copper mugs in which Moscow mules and by extension tequila mules etc. are served actually play a role in the overall experience of the cocktail.
Moscow mule purists know that tradition isn’t the only reason the drink is served in a copper mug: The cold metal insulates the temperature of the chilled ginger beer, keeping the cocktail cool and refreshing.

Not to mention that when the Moscow mule was devised in order to promote the consumption of both vodka and ginger beer the copper mugs became the signature vessels for the beverage. Their iconic appearance has become integral to the enjoyment of a mule.

I love these amazing sets of copper mugs!
