Spicy Paleo Jalapeño Margarita

It’s a perfect weekend for my favorite PALEO JALAPEÑO MARGARITAS!
If you’re looking for a yummy refined sugar free cocktail, this is for you! Fresh lime juice, orange juice, blanco tequila, and honey syrup.

I tried muddling some cucumber into the shaker last time I made these, and it will definitely be happening from now on. So refreshing and delicious!! And if jalapeño isn’t your thing - just omit it! Still just as good!

This is my all-time favorite cocktail to make. Regular margaritas and mixes can contain gluten, tons of sugar, additives, and other stuff to leave you with a nasty headache the next morning. Not these bad boys! They are squeaky clean and have just the right amount of kick from the jalapeños!

I prefer to use tequila that says “100% agave” on the bottle – this means that no additives, fillers, sugar, or other junk have been added! My favorites are 1800 and Patron. I prefer blanco tequila over darker colored ones because it has a lighter taste and goes well with margaritas. Darker tequilas have typically been aged longer and are better for sipping on the rocks!

I sometimes use agave syrup as the sweetener in this recipe, but some will argue that agave nectar is not actually paleo. So, for the purposes of this paleo post, I am going to use honey simply syrup which is actually very SIMPLE to make! (no pun intended). It’s literally just equal parts honey and warm water, stirred until the honey is dissolved. You can make more than you need for this recipe and store it in the fridge so you always have some on hand.

Then we shake the fresh lime juice, orange juice, tequila, honey syrup, and a couple slices of jalapeño (or more if you like heat) together, pour it over ice in a glass with a salted rim, and voila! The cocktail of your dreams.

A healthier version of your favorite Mexican cocktail with a bit of spice! This is the perfect beverage for Cinco De Mayo or just porch sitting on a summer night.

 CourseDrinks: CuisineMexican
 Prep Time: 5 minutes
 Servings: 2 margaritas
Recipe Source: Mary Smith

4 oz 100% agave silver tequila
2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
1.5 tbsp honey syrup* see below for instructions
1 jalapeno sliced into rounds
coarse sea salt for the rim - optional
lime wedges for salting rim and garnish

*To make the honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and warm water and stir. You can make more than needed for this recipe and store it in the fridge for a later use!

If using salt, use a wedge of lime to wet the rim of both glasses. Pour some salt onto a plate and dip the rims into the salt. Add ice to both glasses (I like to use crushed!).

Combine tequila, lime juice, orange juice, honey syrup, and 4 round slices of jalapeño into a shaker with some ice.

Shake it well, then strain equal amounts into each glass.

Garnish with lime wedge and an extra slice of jalapeño if desired. Enjoy!
